We provide a full repair & service on Volvo using approved parts, Beta, Mercruiser, Yanmar inboard engines and Yamaha, Mercury, Marnier, Honda, Suzuki outboard engines.

ur Marine Engineering workshop
Trout's marine engineering team operate in our offsite, purpose built, clean, light and spacious marine engineering workshop. The workshop has easy access using our mini Yamaha Tractor.
The marine engineers are experienced with inboard & outboard marine engines of all brands but especially Yamaha, Volvo Penta & Beta Marine.
As well as in the workshop, Joel & Vinnie work at the boatyard, on the Estuary and about Devon when required.
Depending upon the size of the boats, we are able to take 2 or 3 boats in the workshop at a time.
Joel Tucker
Joel working on a Yanmar 3YM inside a Sunfast 3600 YachtJoel grew up in the South Hams, in the Kingsbridge & Salcombe area. He always loved taking things apart to rebuild, fix things and he messed about with cars from the age of 12.
Aged 16 in 2000, Joel started at Devonport Management Ltd (DML) at Devonport Royal Dockyard to take a 4 year Advanced Modern Apprenticeship. He spent the 1st year at Devonport Training learning mechanical and electrical engineering, which included diesel engine overhaul, machining/tool making and domestic industrial ship wiring and electronics. The next 3 years were served in the Dockyard on the tools working on Navel Frigates and Trident Nuclear Submarines and at DML Diesels, overhauling Intercity Train engines, V12 Paxman Valenta's, completing his Apprenticeship in September 2004.
Joel spent the next 2 years in the main DML factory on general engineering, machine operation, overhauling diesel engines, pumps, valves etc.
Late 2006 Joel joined Paul Craven as he set up Craven Marine on the Trout Boatyard in Topsham doing maintenance repairs to smaller boat inboards, outboards & stern drives, moving with Craven Marine to Exmouth Docks where he added fishing trawlers to his portfolio.

In May 2015 Joel joined Trout’s Boatyard to be our lead Marine Engineer. Throughout his career he has worked especially with Yamaha, Beta & Volvo Dealerships, but has tackled virtually all the other engine makes there are.

Vinnie is an Exmouth boy. His interest in engineering grew from always being around racing cars with the family amateur team and also riding and repairing dirt bikes. When Vinnie and his twin brother turned 14 with Dad they fully rebuilt a Brisca National Ministox race car to race at weekends.
After leaving school Vinnie attended Exeter College for a year studying towards a Level Three Diploma in Engineering, but cut that short to start a more hands on Marine Engineering Apprenticeship in Exmouth with JJB Marine, with day release at South Devon College. After two years with JJB Marine, Vinnie moved to Trouts Boatyard to further his training with more variety and new challenges, gaining valuable experience working alongside Joel. Vinnie is still doing the day release to complete his Marine Engineering Apprenticeship Level 3.
His hobbies include sea fishing, playing rugby for Withycombe Rugby Football Club, green laning on his motor bike and skiing.
